Democrats and Socialism

From libertarian Michael A. LaFerrara:

The increasing embrace of socialism by the Democratic Party is a sea change away from the “liberal” welfare state Democrats, so it’s important to get this understanding right. Welfare statism is different in crucial respects from socialism, democratic or otherwise. The limited socialism of the welfare state, while rights-violating, is supposedly intended only as a “safety net” for capitalism, not a replacement. Under the modern welfare state, individual rights and free enterprise are still fundamental.

Unlike welfare statism, socialism leaves no room for freedom.

  1. It’s amazing how the Right, and the ignorant, can conflate public health care, safety nets, government services for the people, and Constitutional regulation of commerce and taxes with a Stalinist dictatorship. They appear to be the same thing in a narrow world view through their fearful little peepholes.

It is pure indoctrination of course. Corporatism and crony capitalism are diametrically opposed to democracy, while socialism reflects democracy. Corporate and far Right media provide that constant indoctrination for them. But they can’t see that through their pinholes can they?

No wonder they need to call Democrats and democracy a “mob” bent on “mob rule”.

No wonder they insist Nazis were socialists instead of far Right nationalists.

Ignorance will always be strength for them.
