There’s a reason the House speaker keeps feuding with fellow Democrats. It’s her job.
Pelosi’s job is to work for, and protect, all the members of the House Democratic caucus. And the electoral incentives of relatively moderate members in tough districts will always weigh heavily in that calculation – especially when the more liberal members need those moderates to get their own priorities passed.
There’s a big contrast here between Pelosi and her predecessor, Paul Ryan. Ryan excelled at one thing: ducking blame. This made him entirely ill-suited for the role. Speakers sign up for scapegoat duty. The good ones – Pelosi, John Boehner, Tip O’Neill – have very few star moments, and lots of episodes where they take the brunt of abuse from their own party.
Why is that?
Yeah, yeah, I get it. “Politics”.
Since when is it a “moderate” stance to allow a rogue president to break the law? Is that how corporate media and the corpo-dems of the former Democratic Party redefine our politics now?
It’s no secret the progressive left is under attack from both the far Right Republicans and the Democratic Party’s own corporate-sponsored Right wing.
This is what happens when the so-called “opposition”fails to denounce a criminal president for what he is every time they speak in public. If they can’t hammer on that issue every day, they are tolerating the intolerable.
Tolerating the intolerable. I may have defined the “new moderate”. That should work out swell.
Pelosi’s job is to unite her party against Trump’s lawless behavior, and to uphold their oaths to the Constitution. That is what real moderates used to do.
Oh, hell. What was I thinking? This isn’t the United States anymore. It’s the Trump Confederacy.
