On the heels of Donald Trump’s completely fabricated allegation that President Obama ordered wiretaps on Trump Tower during the presidential campaign, the White House has doubled down by demanding a congressional investigation of that lie.
The White House has also tellingly — for the second week in a row — made only one administration official, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, available for a single appearance on a Sunday show.
On ABC’s This Week, Sanders made it clear that Trump’s lie was based on nothing more than discredited right-wing media reports:

Blamed Obama for the leaks coming out of his own staff.
Blamed the generals for the failure of a raid in Yemen, which he cooked up over dinner with Bannon and his son in law.
Implied that the recent wave of bomb threats and vandalism directed at Jewish targets were actually done by the Jews themselves, to make his Aryan supremacist supporters look bad.
And then he delivered a speech. A speech filled with lies and hollow promises; a speech whose only virtue was that Trump did not dissolve into a vicious, abusive tantrum against someone who disagreed with him.

Backers of President Donald Trump were scheduled to hold rallies across the country Saturday, but few actually turned up.
The “Spirit of America” rallies are being organized by a group called the Main Street Patriots, which is made up of some of the same people that founded the Tea Party movement eight years ago to voice concerns about the way the federal government operates.
Debbie Dooley, a leader of the group and co-founder of the Tea Party, told Time magazine the rallies planned for Saturday are meant to be a positive response to recent negative events held by Trump’s political rivals. The sparse attendance is likely to ignite as Twitter Storm from The Donald himself, as he struggles to call out the “fake” media for lying about attendance.
