According to the poll, ninety per cent of Americans would forego food, clothing, and shelter if it means holding out for a relief package that has the support of such G.O.P. lawmakers as Senator Susan Collins, of Maine.
“Sure, I’d love to avoid being evicted at the end of the month,” one poll respondent said. “But if that means accepting a stimulus check that has less than bipartisan support, count me out.”
…immigrants here illegally are not being put to the front of the line for vaccinations as Grothman implies. Instead, DHS is merely continuing a pre-existing policy of preventing immigration enforcement at health care facilities to encourage immigrants here illegally to seek medical treatment without fear of government reprisal.
The policy makes sense. Contagious diseases like Covid-19 do not look at a person’s immigration status before deciding to infect them. Attempting to deny people here illegally access to immunizations will only defeat efforts to contain the Covid-19 virus, especially in work places that hire late numbers of illegal immigrants.
In addition, Grothman’s policy preference of not vaccinating illegal immigrants is counter-productive because mass vaccination is not only about the protection from disease of those who are vaccinated, but also those who cannot for religious or medical reasons be vaccinated. It is only through mass vaccination that real “herd immunity” is built, and denying vaccinations to a segment of society merely because of their immigration status will defeat the goal of a large immunized population preventing the spread of the disease.
Elizabeth Warren Speaks Out About Robinhood Shutting Down GameStop Trades: ‘This is Not Right’
Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke out against the RobinHood app’s decision to shut down access to GameStop stocks, telling MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross that “this is not right.”
Sen. Warren became a hot topic on social media for her comments on the Gamestop chaos, and during an extensive interview on Saturday morning’s edition of The Cross Connection, spoke further on the trading flurry that roiled markets this week and prompted the Robinhood app to block its customers from buying the stock.
Ms. Cross asked Sen. Warren to weigh in on the issue, and specifically singled out lawmakers who didn’t treat the Coronavirus pandemic “with the same urgency as these random day-traders impacting the bottom line of these wealthy hedge fund managers.”
“Well, you’re right. we’re talking about a rigged system,” Warren said. “And it’s rigged in multiple ways…
Begin with a long and special story – touching, in a vindictive sort of way:
The conservative narrative was solid! Dominion Voting Systems stole the Presidential election from Trump and gave it to Biden. Switched votes, not counted votes, illegal votes, what have you. It wasn’t true, and the fact that it wasn’t true was provable. Dominion sued Fox, Rudy Giuliani, and Sidney Powell for mega-millions, and named Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro in the suit.
Fox made the smart move and backtracked. The network disavowed the Dominion conspiracy and had Lou Dobbs read the story on camera.
After that, Fox, Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro pretty much watched their steps. Dominion and vote manipulation were not to be mentioned within an hour or so of each other, except to point ouot that they were definitely not connected, and Dominion was a great, fine, ethical company with a wonderful record of vote counting integrity. Which, by the way, has the virtue of truth going for it.
The new narrative has been that some voting system other than Dominion stole the Presidential election from Trump and gave it to Biden. Smartmatic seemed like a good candidate.
That wasn’t true either, and the fact that it wasn’t true was also provable, but the ethic in some quarters is never let truth interfere with a good story.
This time Fox, Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro are not being hauled into court for mere hundreds of millions. Smartmatic is going after all of them for a total of 2.7 billion dollars. That’s with a B.
The introductory part of the lawsuit is hilarious. On the other hand, my humor tends toward the juvenile, so your mileage may vary.
Still, just to provide an idea of scale: If you give your spouse a million dollars with the understanding that your partner will spend exactly $1,000 a day and not return until the money is gone, you will not see each other for 3 years.
Got it? Three years.
But if you give your spouse a billion dollars with the same understanding, you will not see each other for three thousand years.
Word is within hours after getting legal notification of the suit, Fox tossed Lou Dobbs under a few billion buses and let him go-go. He’s still employed and under contract, but his new office is without windows, floor, cealing, heat, water, or running assistants. And he is off camera.
Depending on who else they go after, Smartmatic may end up owning a whole lot of over-priced pillows.
In related non-fake news, The Journal of Improbable Research finds a study published by the National Academy of Science devoted to whether fake news – documented to be false – is most effectively refuted before, during, or after the fake is read.
Well, my friend is not QAnon and has not advocated the assassination of Nancy Pelosi or the overthrow of the US government, so there is that.
OH! By the by, Ted McLaughlin at jobsanger finds that our new President’s immigration policies, which my friend Darrell hates as the province of Biden’s extreme leftist minions, are overwhelmingly popular. 55%, 69%, 72%. Not bad for us minions. And it seems the public supports the rest of Biden’s actions as well.
Buncha durn leftist radicals, that American public.
Oh no, and what will the FBI do? Investigate the bad things that….the president and his associates caused with their “Stolen election” lie? Or follow the funding of the event where it all went so wrong and the facilitation of it by Trump campaign staff? Explore what exactly happened with the changes made at the Pentagon and whether there was a virtual “stand-down” order surrounding the January 6 events?
Taken at face value, Graham wants us to believe that a lengthy trial would be a bad thing for the country. It seems to me that would be true if one’s definition of the US was “the Republican Party”.
Since about the time of the American Civil War, CO2’s crucial role in warming the planet has been well understood. And not just based on mathematical models: The planet has run many experiments with different levels of atmospheric CO2. At some points in the Earth’s history, lots of CO2 has vented from the crust and leaped from the seas, and the planet has gotten warm. At others, lots of CO2 has been hidden away in the rocks and in the ocean’s depths, and the planet has gotten cold. The sea level, meanwhile, has tried to keep up—rising and falling over the ages, with coastlines racing out across the continental shelf, only to be drawn back in again. During the entire half-billion-year Phanerozoic eon of animal life, CO2 has been the primary driver of the Earth’s climate. And sometimes, when the planet has issued a truly titanic slug of CO2 into the atmosphere, things have gone horribly wrong.
Today, humans are injecting CO2 into the atmosphere at one of the fastest rates ever over this entire, near-eternal span. When hucksters tell you that the climate is always changing, they’re right, but that’s not the good news they think it is. “The climate system is an angry beast,” the late Columbia climate scientist Wally Broecker was fond of saying, “and we are poking it with sticks.”
Today, on the same day that the remains of Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick, killed in the January 6 insurrection, lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda, the House impeachment managers filed their trial brief for the upcoming Senate impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump. The charge is that he incited the insurrection attempt of January 6, 2021, in which a mob stormed the Capitol to stop the counting of the certified electoral ballots for the 2020 election.
Led by Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a former professor of constitutional law, the managers laid out Trump’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election and his incitement of a violent mob to stop Congress from confirming the victory of Joseph Biden in the election. They note that Trump bears “singular responsibility” for the tragedy of January 6 and dismiss his argument that the Senate cannot convict him now because he is no longer in office, countering that such an understanding would give a president “a free pass to commit high crimes and misdemeanors near the end of their term.”
As hard as that racist bullshit is to read, imagine if your child came home and told you that those were things other kids at school were telling them. Imagine the realization that you couldn’t protect your children from the worst ravages of overt racism in your community.
Imagine telling your children, “I’m your mother, and I am supposed to protect you. And I failed you.” It’s heartbreaking. We all know that we cannot protect our children from every harmful thing that is out in the world, but we feel like we should be able to. And, there are only a few stark reminders that we can’t… if you’re white.
If you’re not white, then you are reminded frequently that you cannot protect your child from racism.
One of the more notorious seditionists appearing in numerous videos and photos is a Pennsylvania thug by the name of Rachel Powell, identified by her pink cap and dark sunglasses often speaking into a bullhorn. That’s her FBI wanted poster above. She was filmed using a large pipe-like object to break a window and giving directions to disorganized rioters inside the Capitol as to what hallways led where. Sadly, but not for long, she’s still at large, facing multiple felony counts.
