Grothman Wants Immunization Wall
…immigrants here illegally are not being put to the front of the line for vaccinations as Grothman implies. Instead, DHS is merely continuing a pre-existing policy of preventing immigration enforcement at health care facilities to encourage immigrants here illegally to seek medical treatment without fear of government reprisal.
The policy makes sense. Contagious diseases like Covid-19 do not look at a person’s immigration status before deciding to infect them. Attempting to deny people here illegally access to immunizations will only defeat efforts to contain the Covid-19 virus, especially in work places that hire late numbers of illegal immigrants.
In addition, Grothman’s policy preference of not vaccinating illegal immigrants is counter-productive because mass vaccination is not only about the protection from disease of those who are vaccinated, but also those who cannot for religious or medical reasons be vaccinated. It is only through mass vaccination that real “herd immunity” is built, and denying vaccinations to a segment of society merely because of their immigration status will defeat the goal of a large immunized population preventing the spread of the disease.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke out against the RobinHood app’s decision to shut down access to GameStop stocks, telling MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross that “this is not right.”
Sen. Warren became a hot topic on social media for her comments on the Gamestop chaos, and during an extensive interview on Saturday morning’s edition of The Cross Connection, spoke further on the trading flurry that roiled markets this week and prompted the Robinhood app to block its customers from buying the stock.
Ms. Cross asked Sen. Warren to weigh in on the issue, and specifically singled out lawmakers who didn’t treat the Coronavirus pandemic “with the same urgency as these random day-traders impacting the bottom line of these wealthy hedge fund managers.”

Taken at face value, Graham wants us to believe that a lengthy trial would be a bad thing for the country. It seems to me that would be true if one’s definition of the US was “the Republican Party”.

During the entire half-billion-year Phanerozoic eon of animal life, CO2 has been the primary driver of the Earth’s climate. And sometimes, when the planet has issued a truly titanic slug of CO2 into the atmosphere, things have gone horribly wrong.
Today, humans are injecting CO2 into the atmosphere at one of the fastest rates ever over this entire, near-eternal span. When hucksters tell you that the climate is always changing, they’re right, but that’s not the good news they think it is. “The climate system is an angry beast,” the late Columbia climate scientist Wally Broecker was fond of saying, “and we are poking it with sticks.”

Today, on the same day that the remains of Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick, killed in the January 6 insurrection, lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda, the House impeachment managers filed their trial brief for the upcoming Senate impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump. The charge is that he incited the insurrection attempt of January 6, 2021, in which a mob stormed the Capitol to stop the counting of the certified electoral ballots for the 2020 election.
Led by Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a former professor of constitutional law, the managers laid out Trump’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election and his incitement of a violent mob to stop Congress from confirming the victory of Joseph Biden in the election. They note that Trump bears “singular responsibility” for the tragedy of January 6 and dismiss his argument that the Senate cannot convict him now because he is no longer in office, countering that such an understanding would give a president “a free pass to commit high crimes and misdemeanors near the end of their term.”

As hard as that racist bullshit is to read, imagine if your child came home and told you that those were things other kids at school were telling them. Imagine the realization that you couldn’t protect your children from the worst ravages of overt racism in your community.
Imagine telling your children, “I’m your mother, and I am supposed to protect you. And I failed you.” It’s heartbreaking. We all know that we cannot protect our children from every harmful thing that is out in the world, but we feel like we should be able to. And, there are only a few stark reminders that we can’t… if you’re white.
If you’re not white, then you are reminded frequently that you cannot protect your child from racism.

That’s her FBI wanted poster above. She was filmed using a large pipe-like object to break a window and giving directions to disorganized rioters inside the Capitol as to what hallways led where. Sadly, but not for long, she’s still at large, facing multiple felony counts.
