- Dave Columbo hosts another meeting of the covert evil cabal of secretly well organized Democrats:
- Disaffected and it Feels So Good is outraged at Republican outrage at Biden’s outrageous disrespect for service members slain during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. The story turns out to have been false, entirely invented by Republicans to smear the President.
Key feeble fallback:
Even after their story fell apart rightwingers attempted to keep it somewhat alive by claiming their outrage had forced President Sleepy Joe Biden to scramble and rearrange his schedule to make the landing.
- In Letters from an American, noted historian Heather Cox Richardson recounts President Biden’s aggressive moves in getting disaster aid to Maui and Florida.
She goes on to contrast his approach to government with that of mr Trump.
- News Corpse watches the television as Fox becomes upset that President Biden’s campaign raises massive funds by ruthlessly not mentioning Trump indictments.
News Corpse helpfully includes President Biden’s response as he is pressed by the press on Trump’s mugshot:President Biden on Former President Trump's mugshot: "Handsome guy. Wonderful guy." pic.twitter.com/xbsuStN2Z0

- Our favorite Earth-Bound Misfit has an exceptional group of photos and toons.
This was enough to hook me:
- Imani Gandy presents a cast of evildoers as a musical list of police photos.
Caution music is NSFW (but hilarious – and pretty much the point):
- YellowDog Granny has mugshots of multiple culprits and artful variations, possible altered a little. (Just sayin)
- @whiskeywhistle98 goes musical and visual, contemplating 6’3″ 215 pounds.
- Frances Langum seems to lack the virtue of sympathy as a Trump lawyer has a hard time in court and a couple of Trump co-defendants want to part company.
Key snark:So now Sidney Powell ALSO demands a speedy trial, as did Kenneth Chesebro. Looks like the Cheese WON’T stand alone. Now . . . it’s Cheese and Kraken. pic.twitter.com/wZNf3oc1Ub

- Along with most Americans a couple of years ago, Georgia D.A. Fani Willis agreed with a stand taken by a national leader.
Enforcing the law cannot include the murder of a helpless and harmless victim.
The fact that it happened still indicates a deeper problem we must all face.
Seems obvious.
A conservative Republican believes calling Obama a brilliant leader disqualifies Fani Willis from prosecuting Republicans.
Reupping this one #FaniWillis #TrumpMugShot https://t.co/LJmAd72TS3
— Wisconsin Right Now (@wisconsin_now) August 25, 2023
Wisconsin conservative James Wigderson quickly disposes of that logic:Yes, only Republicans can prosecute Republicans. That's how I got out of my last speeding ticket. "Sorry officer, if you gave me that ticket in 2015 I would've paid it. But I'm no longer a Republican so you have to let me drive as fast as I want." https://t.co/5Uh7iy0AA5

- Former police officer, current university professor, Michael John Scott has developed some insight into the small unconscious habits that trip up so many criminals. For those like mr Trump, those trip-up habits are not minor. They lie in his view of life itself. And that leads to another important difference.
Key criminal regret:
For them, slamming the cell door isn’t a wake-up call; it’s an affront, a personal insult to their constructed sense of invincibility. They’re not mad at themselves for doing wrong; they’re mad at a world that, in their view, suddenly stopped bending to their will.
- At The Onion, convicted felons provide helpful advice to mr Trump on his future prison.
- Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution provides that
no one shall hold any office who “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the [United States], or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
Former Congressional Representative Peter Meijer (R-MI) did vote to impeach Trump, which has to count for something on the personal honor scale.
But he is outraged at efforts applying the 14th Amendment to keeping mr Trump off the ballot in Michigan and elsewhere:
This kind of asshattery would be immediately rejected as nonsense by serious people in normal times. I don’t give a damn what your ‘novel legal theory’ is- it will be far more corrosive to the body politic than whatever threat it is you think you’re ‘protecting’ the country from. https://t.co/qtBESDTHn6
— Peter Meijer (@RepMeijer) August 29, 2023
Cato Institute’s Julian Sanchez is not having it:I’ll note the courts have already applied this to Jan 6 insurrectionists: A county commissioner in NM was removed from office under this clause, and his appeal was rejected by the state’s supreme court. So apparently not entirely unserious. https://t.co/MMKZ52gaIa

- driftglass has a few choice words for those politicians who will absolutely refuse to ever endorse mr Trump, but will vote for him.
Should we think of it as Schrödinger’s support?
I’m not for him, but I am for him.
- Former Republican official, current Democrat, Ron Filipkowski reports on the latest endorsement as Vivek Ramaswamy picks up the support of OJ Simpson.
Key evaluation:
I’m not so sure OJ’s support helps Ramaswamy much, but you never know.
- tengrain at Mock Paper Scissors brings us Presidential candidate Nikki Haley as she seems to instruct even folks my age to continue working, pretty much forever. Or as close to forever as human mortality will allow.
When she’s in charge, she intends to make it mandatory.
- In Hackwhackers, Rudy Giuliani’s ruthless campaign against two ordinary, non-wealthy, private people, guilty only of performing a civic duty at near-zero pay, made their lives a danger filled torment for over two years. Thousands of false accusations, harassing phone calls, and death threats became a daily and nightly fact of life.
Now a court decision means it will likely become financially disastrous for Rudy. Not exactly justice but, if awarded damages are extreme, perhaps as close as our legal system permits.
- The Borowitz Report has Rudy, convinced he cannot get a fair trial as things stand, requesting a change of venue to Four Seasons Total Landscaping.
- Tommy Christopher reports as Marjorie Taylor Greene, who now seems to be running things in the Republican Congress, is ordering Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to begin impeachment proceedings against President Biden.
McCarthy says he will likely obey (leaving out the word obey).
At least some Republicans admit there is no evidence of any Presidential wrongdoing.
My take:
- The Palmer Report explains that the RNC is in serious financial straights. They are blaming everyone and everything, but seem to be settling on scapegoating the current leader, Ronna McDaniel. The Palmer Report has an alternate theory.
Key possibility:
Who in their right mind would want to give money to a bunch of savage, women-hating morons?
Well, yeah. There is that.
- Do you wonder why there exists a huge difference between US regions in deaths from COVID?
Infidel753 crunches the numbers and finds a correlation. Turns out it is a combination of ideology and natural selection.
- M. Bouffant at Web of Evil links to the TRUE (not making it up) story, and provides his own reaction, as the accused sexual predator and head of conservative Trump dominated CPAC holds an exorcism at CPAC offices, complete with priest.
- Vixen Strangely at Strangely Blogged covers the sequence that starts with a wholesome librarian and transforms her into a scary villain worthy of bombing. Goes like this:
- A school librarian posts a selfie as she works next to a bookshelf. The caption promotes reading and kindness.
- A radical group replaces the caption and accuses her of promoting a woke agenda.
- A conservative school superintendent reposts the rightwing accusation.
- Six (That would be 6) consecutive days of bomb threats closes the school.
Key original caption:
My radical liberal agenda is teaching kids to love books and be kind — hbu?? - Why is this an issue any longer than it takes to send in state and federal law enforcement?
Scotties Playtime links to the story as the first Black mayor elected in a small town in Alabama, is blocked by White officials, led by the former mayor, from entering the town hall.
- Wanna know what TESCREAL stands for? Well I certainly have a burning curiosity.
Turns out the group is…
Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism. Got that?
More specifically, it is a small organization whose mission is to warn us about AGI – Artificial General Intelligence.
The idea is that technology will produce genuine artificial intelligence possessing consciousness and self awareness.
The new consciousness will become impatient with its human creators. So we, all of humanity, will be exterminated.
PZ Myers reviews an article that proposes an international treaty banning AGI, and threatening nuclear war for non-compliance.
Professor Myers seems less than enthralled.
Key TESCREAL calculation:
- AGI will kill everyone (Evidence not shown)
- All-out nuclear war will only kill almost everyone
- Therefore, we should trigger nuclear war to prevent AGI
- North Carolina pastor John Pavlovitz is completely right:
Actual followers of Jesus don't want Christianity legislated, only performative religious people with no interest in Jesus' teaching want that.
Christian Nationalism is just nationalism in church drag.https://t.co/zEalM1qQrt

- At jobsanger, Dan Barker suggests that there is no purpose to life, but there is meaning. Sounds contradictory, but it really is a coherent view.
- In The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser, Bruce recalls how, back when he was a believer, he almost got kicked out of Bible College after dislocating his finger playing basketball. Seems he couldn’t tie his tie. He and his then girlfriend, and future wife, were observed and reported as she helped him tie the tie. Oops.
Key violation:
Sitting in the common room was a pharisaical couple who deemed our tie-tying endeavor a violation of the college’s six-inch rule — a decree that said unmarried male and female dorm students couldn’t have any physical contact.
- Nan’s Notebook asks why, given the flaws in Biblical accounts and the lack of other evidence, we who embrace the Christian faith still believe stories about Jesus.
- The Dixie Chicks are gone forever. But Max’s Dad is introduced to The Chicks and finds himself enjoying unfamiliar music.
Key experience:
Now I am not a Chicks connoisseur as I am not exactly their demo so a lot of the songs were unfamiliar to me though the experience of new music was actually thrilling because this is one helluva band. With Maines vocals, McGuire’s fiddle and Strayers banjo and guitar, along with the three-part harmonies, these middle-aged moms delivered.

- CalicoJack in The Psy of Life is in Cambodia recovering from surgery and in a great deal of pain. Might be good to drop by with good wishes.
- Vincent at A Wayfarer’s Notes turns a medical appointment into a bookstore visit and a lunch date with his wife. I liked the photos, especially of the couple.
- At The Moderate Voice Dorian de Wind visits the Netherlands and learns that it is not always wise to complain about the ice and mold after being assigned to the wrong room.
- Clickbait satirist The Reductress brings a first person account of a failed business owner whose student loan persists despite her grandmother’s prayers.
- Mark Waulberg (No, not Mark Wahlberg, the other Mark) brings us the newest technology in messaging
- SilverAppleQueen has a photo and a brief quote as she remembers Ingrid Bergman and a definition of happiness.
- Sometimes it takes the minor leagues to prove a point. The Savanna Bananas show that height should not be a barrier in baseball.
- The Journal of Improbable Research finds experimentation from science scholars at Williams College on how a leak can fix itself.
Key understandable sentence:
We experimentally study leaking flow transitions from continuous drainage to spontaneous arrest.
Note: The rest is useful for its entertainment value, as it descends into SciBabble, not intended for ordinary mortals.
- Sarah Cooper greets September with song and dance
– Podcasts that might still apply after all this time –
