Let’s Not Forget the Scandals of the Obama Administration: Tan-Gate

  1. Oh man.

Remember when “conservatives” said Obama was a fascist dictator that would destroy our democracy, and we all just rolled our eyes?

Fastforward to 2020 and we’re all saying Donald Trump is a want-to-be fascist dictator that will destroy our democracy, and 180,000 people are rolling in their graves?

I miss Tan Suit-Gate, Mustard-Gate, Imported Beer-Gate, Terrorist Fistbump-Gate. I wish we were back to rolling eyes at hyperbole rather than mourning for the loss of our neighbors and our society.

    1. I have to agree, Trey.

      Those were the days.
When the primary concern of conservatives was the color of the … uh … suit.

  2. Damn, I miss Obama.

GOP assholes spilled a whole lot of ink and inconvenienced a whole lot of electrons talking about the outrage of a president in a tan suit. And he looked great in it. The man could wear clothes. He looked, talked and spoke in complete and measured thoughts like a president should. I didn’t always agree with every assertion but he always had a point. And he was willing to listen, answer questions and, sometimes, allowed his opinions to shift with the weight of the evidence.

IMHO the single most profound and durable effect of four years of Trump has been the polishing of Obama’s reputation.

  3. Let’s not forget Solyndra, Fast and Furious, Russia Spy Gate, Bengahzi, IRS targeting conservatives, the “Affordable Care Act” ( I guess my doctor didn’t get the memo that I could keep him and costs wouldn’t go up.), hundreds of millions of dollars on pallets shipped to Iran (the world leading sponsor of terrorism), and so the list goes on. I could add a lot more, but I have to go pick up my tan suit at the cleaners.

    1. Yes, exactly. I yearn for the days we all discussed BS, “conservative” wah wah, we want to make sure Obama is a one term president-gates. That’s how bad now has become.

    2. That’s Right.

Let’s not forget Solyndra. And “DON”T BUY GOODYEAR!”

Let’s not forget those horrible Obama scandals, but let’s not forget there were no crimes or corruption by Administration officials. Zero arrests.

The list of bugaboo words have value only to the indoctrinated true believers of the Right.

It helps deflect from what they are not allowed to acknowledge. The real scandals and criminal record of the Trump Cartel.

You see, 20,000 lies from a hateful, petty, ignorant, divisive, racist president don’t amount to anything approaching scandalous behavior. Like Trump Tower Moscow, siding with Putin in Helsinki was just Trump being Trump. Just mutual admiration. No scandal there.

And come on, calling the press enemies of the people, and accusing political opposition of treason is real patriotism. It’s what the Founders wanted. It’s not like dictators do that sort of stuff.

His obvious criminal behavior in paying off a porn star, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, bank and insurance fraud, violations of the Emoluments Clause, the Hatch Act, Voter Rights Act, etc. are not on their scandal radar.

How about the sabotage of the US Postal Service to obstruct the mail and delay ballots to undermine the election?

      Meh.

Never mind all that. None of those are real scandals.

We should still be very resentful and angry with Obama that some Tea Party bigots were annoyed by late tax exemption evaluations by the IRS. And never mind liberal groups were also affected. Just never mind that. Let’s forget that part, OK?

And let’s share the righteous outrage of Darrell, our real victim here. His doctor retired and blamed Obama.

      But Trump offers hope…

The only compassionate conservative solution is to strip all Obamacare patients of their healthcare, and disqualify patients with pre-existing conditions from future treatment. Yes, and let’s take food stamps from the poor, cut taxes for the rich, slam the door on people seeking asylum, cut Social Security and Medicare, befoul the air and water, make it harder for urban poor people to vote, and tell the hundreds of thousands of sick and dying Americans our leader is doing a fantastic job with the pandemic. Let’s show our conservative Christian values here.

Combine this abundance of hope and promise with the crimes and corruption of the Cartel, and this is how Trump is making America great.

Don’t let the libs deny it! Never mind those dumb numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Obama’s last three years: 8.1 million jobs added
Trump’s first three years: 6.6 million jobs added

Ignore that! FAKE facts! Trump is the ONLY one!

No wonder Trump is showing us what Biden’s America looks like, right NOW! It’s ALL Biden’s fault!

How can libs be so stupid? They must hate America.

    3. Thank you for the provocative comment, Darrell.

I don’t want to miss the point. The fact that conservatives would grasp at a tan suit, of all things, demonstrated that they were willing to seize on anything, no matter how trivial or false, to manufacture scandal. And that should cast some suspicion on any subsequent accusations. Indeed, as you can see from other responses, most of the scandals you mentioned were debunked, disproved, or too petty to be considered seriously.

One exception might be keeping one’s doctor under Obamacare. As I recall, Obama later apologized for that. I think it was gracious of him, considering that conservatives pushed the narrative that he had actually promised that individual doctors would never ever retire, die, or simply refuse to accept current patients who had begun relying on Obamacare. Interestingly, the scandal we call Obamacare has become overwhelmingly popular. If you are hanging your hat on that, you may want to reconsider.

The real problem, the obvious problem, some folks had with Obama was the color of something other than his clothing. Considering that he led a virtually scandal free administration, it seems color still is the one exception.

    More ‘Tan suits’.
Solyndra- Used to be the US government used to finance dozens of such experimental basic research, engineering, or new technology support projects. Henry Ford got a leg up when the USPS, Health Service and other departments purchased large numbers of early cars. A risky move that made the US the world leader in automotive technology. At the end of WWI aviation was kept alive by USPS ‘airmail’. The US government subsidized airlines. Result was we had experience in aviation going into WW2. Bell Labs and 3M massively benefited from US government funding. Early electronic miniaturization gave us the proximity fuse in WW2 and this led, in time to transistors and microelectronics. DARPA scientists started messing around with inter-lab communications and, after considerable public funding, we ended up with the internet. Public funding of reseach and engineering development was a big reason we led the world for a time.

Lack of such funding is why we have fallen back. Businessmen are simply not the devil-may-care innovators they make themselves out to be. Business wants dependable profits. So much for free markets.

Fast and Furious- Mexico, actually most of South America, is awash with US guns. A big reason it remains unstable with wide swaths not under any government control. Most of these guns come from a couple of dozen suppliers and gun shops using fake identities and straw purchases. The GOP, in its infinite wisdom, and under guidance of the NRA, has made the recording of statistics, study of the problems and tracking of guns back to individual purchasers and gun shops illegal. F&F was an attempt to workaround that. The actual facts were far less inflammatory than FOX News and e-mail rate listings let on.

Russia Spy Gate – Please. Get real.

Bengahzi- Diplomats dictate the size and composition of their security. HRC and Obama had, as shown by several years and millions of dollars of investigation, very little to do with it.

IRS targeting conservatives- Evidence shows they ‘target’, regularly audited and reviewed, most of the not-for-profit organizations. Of all stripes. Conservatives tended to get caught because they though being ‘on the side of the angels’, good intentions, would protect them from having to fill out paperwork correctly.

“Affordable Care Act” – Well … Sorry if you didn’ t figure it out but, for most people without generous health plans, it was mostly a break-even proposition. The poor, uninsured, and people getting stepped on with long-term and pre-existing conditions befitted the most. For the vast majority it worked pretty much as advertised in the context of their existing plan. Which likely didn’t offer much choice. Fact being most people haven’t had a self-selected ‘family doctor’ for fifty years. Half a century of my doctor, and exactly what they can do, being selected by 1) my insurance company. 2) my employer. Keeping my doctor? Didn’t happen but that wasn’t really on the table before the ACA. So no change there.

Premiums went up a bit. But they had been rising much faster previously so nothing new there. But I liked not worrying about being dropped, phased, or priced out. A fair deal in my book.

millions of dollars on pallets shipped to Iran – Money wasn’t actually transferred to Iran under Obama. You are confusing Iraq and/or Afghanistan, under W, when literal pallets of bundles $100 bills were flown in and forked off. Yes, the nuclear deal with Iran said we would unfreeze hundreds of millions in Iranian funds. It was Iranian money not US taxpayers funds and the unfreezing, last I checked, still hadn’t happened when Obama left office. Either way, it still wasn’t our money.
