Folsom Prison Robin - Mashup by FAROFF
I have completely misrepresented the position of a frequent opponent.
Yesterday, I wrote the following:
The usually thoughtful The Heathen Republican misses the mark this time, presenting his reasons for opposing marriage equality. My favorite is his argument that everyone has the same right to marry someone of the opposite sex, so there is no discrimination. I understand in ancient Rome, everyone had the same right to worship Isis, and two generations ago in the former member states of the old confederacy, everyone had an equal right to marry someone of the same race. Tired, but some folks do repeat the same arguments.
I had conflated his series of points with his previous position, which had been against equality for gays. In fact, he has changed his position, not an easy thing for anyone, with the obvious exception of Mitt Romney, whose deathbed conversions are transparent in their desperation. Heathen is genuinely in favor of marriage equality.
His title might have given a more careful reader a bit of a clue:
A Secular Conservative Argument for Gay Marriage
Heathen writes in response, with understandable irritation:
Burr, please stop linking to my posts if you're not going to read them. Your snide comments opposing your own interpretation of my posts is not entertaining.
My post this week was in support of gay marriage. I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears, but I'd appreciate if you corrected the record.
I must acknowledge that Heathen's failure to see the entertainment value in my posts is, indeed, sometimes shared by others. A number of folks occasionally seem to forget that I am hilarious.
I do regret the error, a blatant error at that.
My apologies to The Heathen Republican.
