While I have, for years, insisted that Congress is by no means representative of the vast majority of the population, with its nearly universal upper-income membership, I view the recent rise of Tea Party candidates like Fischer and Murdock as a very UNhealthy phenomenon. Actually, I am horrified by it. These people simply do not have the knowledge breadth needed to make the type of complicated decisions that are an absolute requirement of such high office. We do not, with good vreason, permit greenhorns to work in high medical, educational, law, or corporate positions because they lack the proper necessary background and experience. The very same standards must apply in the political world. If we end up with a government filled with Sarah Palins, Virginia Foxxes, Richard Murdocks, Deb Fischers, and Michele Bachmanns, it will mean the end of the United States as a credible world power.
