The fact that all 8 of them raised their hand to that stupid question totally reminded me of high school (the peer pressure, etc.). I mean, even the erstwhile reasonable and sophisticated Mr. Huntsman had to conform somehow. What a brutishly sad commentary on a once great party (Lincoln, T.R, Ike, Rocky, etc.) it was.

Mr. Hart, at the risk of my seeming to be a contrarian, I hardly think Governor Huntsman is reasonable or sophisticated, unless you happen to define the terms as per the progressive dictionary, then I would concur. If that is the case then yes, he is indeed reasonable because he wants to spend billions of dollars to reduce un-proven anthropogenic global warming. He supported efforts at cap and trade accordingly. He is sophisticated in that he is not a typical boorish Republican like many of the others that were on that stage the other night. Indeed, he is the consummate big-government Republican that thinks spending tax-payer dollars on government programs is always the first place to look for a solution for our economy and society. His support of TARP was more evidence of this. I should know because I saw first-hand how he governed my current home state of Utah. While he did do some things right, another “moderate, sophisticated, and reasonable” Republican like John McCain or George W. Bush or Bob Dole is NOT what we need right now if we are to salvage our economy and possibly our country, in my humble opinion.

That said, I do think you are absolutely right regarding your overall observation. I think some of the folks on that stage raised their hands to the question simply out of peer pressure rather than out of any underlying core principle, sir.
