On Veterans Day, Unsung Heroes Are Productive Americans

found online by Raymond

From libertarian Michael A. LaFerrara:

But America’s veterans are not the whole story. So, I’d like to use this Veterans Day post to acknowledge the unsung hero of America’s military prowess, the productive American citizen. No military as strong and as competent as America’s can exist in a vacuum. It requires something else – something indispensable – a great economy.

America’s economy, historically the most productive the world has ever seen, is the foundation that supports our military personnel.

Acting Attorney General: Hacking the Appointments Clause

found online by Raymond

From Cato Institute’s Julian Sanchez:

The elevation of Whitaker to the role of acting attorney general seems as precise an instance as one could imagine of the scenario the Framers hoped to deter. It is, after all, no secret why President Trump has been dissatisfied with Sessions: He has frequently made clear that he was infuriated by Sessions’ recusal (quite clearly required by DOJ rules) from overseeing the investigation into Russian election tampering—which has already seen legal penalties imposed on several of the president’s allies—and his insufficient enthusiasm for pursuing the president’s political adversaries. Whitaker, formerly Sessions’ chief of staff, seems certain to be more accommodating.

It’s Trump’s Party and He’ll Cry if He Wants To

found online by Raymond

From Joe Hagstrom at MadMikesAmerica:

The picture of the mean bully President Macron of France and the equally mean, ball busting bully, Mrs. Merkel of Germany whispering nasties about President Trump as he looked on in dismay and sadness made me want to cry. How dare they disrespect as fine a man as our President. A man who has done nothing but shower them with kindness and encouragement.

The nasty bully Macron even made a speech deriding my President’s patriotic nationalism. I guess that’s what he was doing anyway. He was probably saying it in French which is a further insult after all Trump has done for France what with clapping enthusiastically at their military parade.

It was heartening to see President Putin show up at an event. The happiness was aglow all over Trump’s face when he saw his friend. A friend who has showered Trump with respect and other stuff from what I’ve heard.

When Fascism Comes To America

found online by Raymond

From Dave Dubya:

Trump rallies are not celebrations of tax cuts and deregulation. It’s all about their resentment, anger and rage in an extended version of Orwell’s “Two minute hate”. Lately journalists and black women seem to be getting a special serving of ire.

So why are they so angry, even while holding most of the power of our government?

They are frightened. They believe in all their fear-mongering, scapegoating, conspiracies, and lies.

White Nationalism is in a frenzied panic. They still see themselves as the real oppressed “victims”, you know. They want to wield political power as a means to social and cultural dominance.

Don’t Build a Wall; Build This Instead

found online by Raymond

From PERRspectives:

But as Donald Trump throws the reddest of the red meat to his Republican base, many Americans seem not to realize that he is preparing the United States to once again fight the last war. While families and children fleeing the gang violence, corruption, and economic troubles in Central America are seeking asylum in the U.S. in greater numbers, the early 2000s wave of undocumented immigrants from Mexico has slowed to a comparative trickle. For a fraction of the cost of building Trump’s “big, beautiful wall,” the American people could provide economic assistance, supply military aid and training, fund anti-corruption projects, and deploy U.S.-led multinational forces to raise living standards, crackdown on international gangs, and ensure safety for nations across Central America.

Putin Loses Control of the House

found online by Raymond

From The Borowitz Report:

Putin made his concession speech from the Kremlin, where he congratulated the Democrats for waging a “tough fight.”

“Maybe if Facebook and Twitter hadn’t banned so many of my fake accounts, the results would have been different,” Putin said. “But I don’t want to make excuses—I threw everything I had at these races, and I lost.”

Bruce, You Are a Crypto-Christian, Posing as an Atheist

found online by Raymond

From The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser:

Earlier, I posted an article about how many Evangelicals contend that I never was a True Christian®; that I never met the REAL JESUS. Unsurprisingly, I often get similar treatment from hardcore — dare I say, Fundamentalist — atheists. According to these atheists, I am crypto-Christian, posing as an atheist; that deep down I am still a follower of Jesus — or at the very least want to be. In their minds, all religion is bad, and the Abrahamic religions are the worst of the bunch. That I am an accommodationist and believe Jesus was a real, flesh-and-blood historical figure says to them that I really haven’t left Christianity behind. That I have good things to say about my Christian past, and I am willing to commend Christians when they do good in Jesus’s name, is more proof to them that under my atheist veneer beats the heart of a man who is having a secret affair with Christianity.
