Giving Orders

From The Borowitz Report:

Trump Sees New Polls and Orders Ukraine to Investigate Elizabeth Warren

“What Elizabeth Warren and her crooked kids have been doing in Ukraine is a disgrace,” Trump told reporters on the White House lawn. “This is maybe the biggest scandal in the history of our country.”

After Jim Acosta, of CNN, pointed out that there had been no reports of any involvement in Ukraine on the part of either Warren or her children, Trump responded, “You bet there’s been no reporting, because you people are even more crooked than she is.”

Eating Babies is Not Okay

Trump Attacked AOC Over The “Eat The Babies” Viral Video

From Vixen Strangely at Strangely Blogged:

Turns out, the stunt was staged by a pro-Trump conspiracy group

But for the folding of the satirical concept of eating babies lifted from Swift and whipped into frothing nightmare fuel, you’ve got your guano-brains du jour, Q‑Anon, serving up heaping helpings of adrenochrome. This is, apparently, the scared-child sauce that elite liberals have been drinking to stay looking so amazeballs and vigorous. It’s basically Pizzagate with a vampire twist, and has its origins in one of the oldest and most bigoted conspiracy theories (which has killed countless innocent people) on the books–the Blood Libel.

It’s batshit with a pedigree. Call the group you wish to destroy “child murderers”–say they eat babies–and watch it excite the part of the brain that wants to, quite rightly, desperately protect their young. Unleash the meme on people who already dislike this group. Watch as the people exposed to said unfounded slander decide that the claim is too grave to further investigate and action must be taken at once.

Elizabeth Warren Trolls Hecklers (Click for video)

From Tommy Christopher:

‘Trump and His Supporters Are Getting Really Nervous’

“Look, there’s a lot we need to do and I understand, I understand that Donald Trump and his supporters are getting really nervous, and they have a good reason to be!” Warren said, to thunderous applause.

“Just saying. It’s sad. It really is,” Warren said, then turned to the man and said “I’m so sorry.”

Several other hecklers continued to shout things like “No socialism,” as Warren continued.

“We are not here just to worry about Donald Trump. We’re here to talk about a positive vision for how we build an America that works for everyone,” Warren said, adding “and I’ll be clear, when I say for everyone, I mean everyone, including Donald Trump’s supporters.”

Why Is Trump’s Ukraine Scandal Different?

found online by Raymond

Additional Article from National Review (Photo by Jonathan Ernst/Reuters)

From Jonathan Bernstein:

Republicans spent more than two years defending the president from charges of collusion. This is how he thanks them?

I agree that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has played her hand well so far, for instance, and that Trump hasn’t. But I think there are three more important reasons why we are where we are now – with impeachment very likely, and Republicans less enthusiastic in their defense of the president than they have been.

One reason is what several people have pointed out: The Ukraine story indicates that Trump’s malfeasance is ongoing and forward-looking. That’s very different than a backward-facing scandal, like the special counsel’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, where the key actions took place before Trump was in office. It also suggests that, as Matthew Green reminds us, the facts may actually matter.

Another reason is simply that impeachment, politically, is never about a single scandal. It’s always cumulative.

His Holiness Has Repeatedly Stated This Is Not A Cult

From The Onion:

DEATH VALLEY, CA

“For the ninth and final time, this is not a cult but a programmatic intramental polysymbolic thought-system for enhancing mental paravirility and omnispiritual psychowellness as clearly stated in Protocol 117,” said Elder Healer Sister-Brother Camilla 82 Eridani, adding that this is the exact sort of transgram-sodden thought violation from which all must refrain, as that is the type of word used by those that seek to sow division amongst us.“For the ninth and final time, this is not a cult but a programmatic intramental polysymbolic thought-system for enhancing mental paravirility and omnispiritual psychowellness as clearly stated in Protocol 117,” said Elder Healer Sister-Brother Camilla 82 Eridani, adding that this is the exact sort of transgram-sodden thought violation from which all must refrain, as that is the type of word used by those that seek to sow division amongst us.

Myths About Columbus

found online by Raymond

From The Propaganda Professor:

Another popular traditional misconception is that Columbus encountered a lot of resistance to his proposed explorations because most folks at the time believed the earth was flat, and he would just sail off the edge of it. (Into what?). Not true; the rotundity of the planet had been common knowledge since at least the ancient Greeks. There may have been a few people who believed it to be a big platter floating in space, but probably no more than there are today.

The myth of widespread flat eartherism didn’t even gain traction until about two centuries after Columbus, when Protestants made such an accusation against Catholics. In the Nineteenth Century, the myth was advanced further by a handful of scientists in not particularly scientific books aimed at making creationists appear even more backward than they really were.

But for the myth relating specifically to Columbus, we can thank Washington Irving of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle fame. His 1828 book A History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus was the literary equivalent of a 1950’s Hollywood biopic, giving Columbus the Parson Weems treatment. Weems, you may recall, was the “biographer” of George Washington who took great liberties with the facts in order to exalt his subject, and may have invented the cherry tree episode . Similarly, Irving inserted an account of a meeting between Columbus and a Spanish commission to consider his proposed voyages, in which the commission objected that the silly navigator believed the earth was (snicker, snicker) spherical, and they couldn’t possibly get behind such a notion. The meeting was apparently real. The objection was not.

Matt Walker Not Running for Congress

Matt Walker

From Wisconsin conservative James Wigderson:

Matt Walker, the president of Platform Digital and the son of former Governor Scott Walker, announced on social media that he is not running for Congress in Wisconsin’s fifth congressional district.

Walker said that after much prayer he has decided to focus on his business instead. (Disclosure: RightWisconsin is a client of Platform Digital.) However, he added that the Republican Party needs more young people to run for public office.
