Terrorism Happened Here–Call It That

From Vixen Strangely at Strangely Blogged:

When a car apparently intentionally plows into a group of people participating in a counter-protest to the Nazi shindig in Charlottesville, it should be pretty obvious that you should call it terrorism, and disavow it, and condemn that sort of thing. Many politicians recognized at once the enormity of the situation, and called for the event to be treated as the terror that it was intended to be. This was the obvious response, the necessary response. Bigotry and violence are a bad and unnecessary combination in a diverse nation where we value free speech. The counter-protestors had all the same rights as the so-called “alt-right” protestors (although I prefer to just think of them as Nazis, because, well, what they do, say and think).

Our president, though, decided to make a comment condemning violence “on many sides”. How utterly inadequate of the man. As if there was a movement that somehow used violence against white supremacy on the regular.

  1. Yep. The racist that drove his car into the group of counter-protesters killing Heather and injuring 20 others is a domestic terrorist. He should be treated as such.

One wonders if Vixen also chastised President Obama for calling the Fort Hood shootings a case of “work place violence” instead of the act of terror that it was?

I also agree that Trump’s “all sides” comment was ill considered and foolish. That said, he just now held a press conference and condemned by name the neo-Nazis and white supremacists and their racist ideals that are an anathema to the United States in unequivocal terms. I wonder if this newest statement will satisfy Vixen and Trump’s other critics on the issue.

    Care to place any bets?

    1. It’s good to know Mr. Paine is satisfied with Trump. He’s far more tolerant than this liberal in that department.

I’d like to ask, when has Trump shown any inclination to “satisfy his critics”? He has never admitted he’s wrong. He’s never apologized for God’s sake!

It’s obvious Trump needed prompting to actually condemn neo-Nazis and white supremacists. That is the truth of the matter.

Trump tried to get away from naming hate groups (THAT SUPPORT HIM) and he played the con-servative false equivalence card. Stormfront applauded his remarks. Would a betting man say that praise from Nazis just may have been instrumental in his staff pushing the amended reaction?

He spews more venom at Hillary and Obama than to Nazis, racists, and Putin. That is his true nature.

And this is also the truth:

His birtherism, and history of discrimination in housing, defying court orders and repeating the behavior, show us he’s a racist.

And as with his take on David Duke, why should his later, carefully amended, remarks ring true?

      Come on.

He is what he is, and only fools, dupes, suckers, fellow racists, and the uninformed think otherwise.

Since I don’t belong to any of those groups, I’m not satisfied with Trump’s newest statement. Why should I be? Why should anyone be satisfied with what that man says?

    2. “But Obama!”

I listened to President Trump’s remarks today. I thought they were adaquate. Or rather, they would have been over the weekend. Too little, too late I guess?

When did Obama call Fort Hood a case of workplace violence? Or are you referring to 2014 Fort Hood? Cause you can’t really call that a case of terrorism…

    3. Just don’t call those Trump-supporting Nazis, Klansmen and racists, “deplorables”, right?

      Let the Real Americans(TM) speak.

“That damn Hillary was soooo divisive and hateful. Emails!! Benghazi!! Fake News!! Lock her up!!”

But Donald said racism is bad….AFTER two days of Nazi praise and public outcry. And only AFTER blowing his horn about how great he is, and what a swell job he’s done. Who could ever think he was insincere?

Donald reacted with an angry tweet, within an hour, at the black guy who left in disgust. His hate and racism clearly took the front row to condemning Nazis.

But we should be “satisfied” as Dear Leader rips into a “fake news” tirade for not being revered as a great man for his obviously reluctant teleprompter scripted backtrack?

We have essentially surrendered to authoritarian con-servatism and its hate and madness. We revere an antiquated anti-democratic device that overturned the will of a 3 million vote majority that allowed fascism to raise its ugly head.

This country deserves what it gets. It’s victims do not.

  2. I strongly suspect if Trump gave today’s speech over the weekend, it still would not matter to Dave. Nothing, short of Trump resigning and being put in jail on death row would satisfy Mr. Dubya I am guessing.

And yes Trey, when the Muslim Army doctor runs around Fort Hood yelling allahu akbar as he shoots fellow soldiers, that is ABSOLUTELY a case of domestic terrorism and not a case of work place violence or a “man-caused disaster”.

    1. You are referring to the 2009 shooting, then. I fail to recall it being classified as a case of workplace violence. Certainly every statement I’ve been able to find made by President Obama doesn’t seem to use that language. Are you misremembering? There was a shooting in 2016 at Fort Hood that was more of a workplace violence scenerio that you may be confusing it with? In light of this:

“One wonders if Vixen also chastised President Obama for calling the Fort Hood shootings a case of “work place violence” instead of the act of terror that it was?”

      I doubt it.

    2. I wonder if this newest statement will satisfy Vixen and Trump’s other critics on the issue.

      From CNN:

President Trump blamed “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, echoing a similar thing he said on Saturday, for which he was swiftly criticized.

“There are two sides to a story,” Trump said, adding that there were “a lot of bad people in the other group too,” referring to the counterprotesters.

He added that there were also “good people” on both sides, including those marching in the white nationalism rally.

Is Mr. Paine satisfied with the explanation about “good people” who happen to be Nazis and racists? Did “both sides” maim and kill?

I have to admit Mr. Paine is far more tolerant than this liberal.

  3. Mr. Paine believes Trump’s words were sincere. I do not. Mr. Paine is satisfied Trump’s amended statement makes him a nice guy. He never explained why I should be satisfied with Trump’s words in light of his behavior and repeated racist birther hate rhetoric.

Why should I be satisfied with the words of a racist liar? Mr. Paine can’t give me a reason, so he “guesses” I would emulate the Trumpists’, (and Mr. Paine’s) wishes regarding Hillary.

Hillary is accountable for crimes not cited. Trump… not so much. Obama didn’t fire Comey on her behalf, did he? How would Mr. Paine react if Hillary fired Benghazi inquisitors and treated the Russians to the exclusive use of the Oval Office like Trump? IOKIYAR. I’m guessing. Or maybe he’d have to inform us that the “arrogant Obama” was no better.

Mr. Paine can’t let a Trump incident go by without comparing him to Obama. We get it. There is practically no difference between the two presidents.

Nothing, short of Trump resigning and being put in jail on death row would satisfy Mr. Dubya I am guessing.

Would he mean the same punishment he and the Trumpists would have for Hillary? I recall Mr. Paine’s enthusiasm for the “Lock her up!” chant. I suppose the best he can do is project.

Trump blatantly gave Russians secret intel in the Oval Office, excluding American journalists, while boasting that firing Comey would make the investigation go away. But Obama and Hillary did that all the time, right?

In June 2016, three members of the Trump campaign, including the campaign manager, Trump Jr. and the candidate’s son-in-law, shared a message promising to them materials stolen by the Russian government from the Clinton campaign. The three eagerly participated in the meeting.

This is the perfect picture of collusion. But Obama and Hillary did that stuff all the time, right?

Again, Mr. Paine seems quite tolerant of that behavior. He wants Hillary locked up, but as for Trump, IOKIYAR after all.

    We get it.

I’m sure Mr. Paine knows there is no such charge as “domestic terrorism”. Thus even the Army prosecuted the shooter for murder. Fields the terrorist was also charged with murder.

Here Obama refers to the Fort Hood incident as terrorism.

Deranged or alienated individuals — often U.S. citizens or legal residents — can do enormous damage, particularly when inspired by larger notions of violent jihad. And that pull towards extremism appears to have led to the shooting at Fort Hood and the bombing of the Boston Marathon.

So that’s the current threat — lethal yet less capable al Qaeda affiliates; threats to diplomatic facilities and businesses abroad; homegrown extremists. This is the future of terrorism.

Something tells me Mr. Paine isn’t as satisfied with Obama’s words as he is with Trump’s.

    We get it.

  4. For some reason I don’t expect Mr. Paine to return to this subject.

Fear not, he has been busy educating the world on American liberals’ Nazi roots. You see, it turns out it was a liberal Nazi terrorist who ran his car into the crowd of… liberals.

Why can’t we understand that it just makes con-sense that the Klan are still Democrats and Nazis are liberals?

Fascists don’t know they are fascists, and racists don’t know they are racists. They are too busy blaming and accusing liberals and others of being racists and Nazis.

Mr. Paine tells us Obama, not the Klan, not the Nazis, not FOX, not white nationalists, not con-servatives, but Obama, he is the real reason for rising racial tensions.

Blaming the Black Guy for racism proves you’re not racist. See the logic?

This country has descended into hate and madness.
