Still in Recovery, but Recovering

(Posted by cell phone)

Good news: Cancer free although I’m laid up for another few days.

Bad news: This adventure involved an unexpected trip to the Emergency Room, where I asked one of the nurses how things are going. She said they are deluged with COVID patients.

So I checked a regional survey here in Missouri. The hospital is coded in the extreme range. More than 96% of ICU beds are currently occupied.

A moment’s thought tells me there are patients in serious condition who will be unable to get required extreme treatment.

At least some with nothing related to COVID will die because of the pandemic.

I’ve heard of this happening in some parts of the country. It’s probably worse in red states, where there are more unvaccinated people.

Glad to hear at least the personal news is good.

  2. I am happy that you are well and on the mend. What you have observed about our health care system reminds me of how fragile it is–how all our support systems are. The carers in our communities are stretched to the brink, and no substitute exists for them. The ill, whether from COVID-19 or anything else, will have diminished care because of resignations, sick-time, or sheer volume limiting hospital manpower. And the highly -skilled hospital workers are far less replaceable than others just by requiring training to do their job.

Congrats on being cancer free! That’s relieving news in anyone’s book and nothing to rattle the ventilator over. Here’s looking forward to a full and complete recovery from the things that are ailing you.

The anti-vaxxers are going to bring us all down one way or another. Glad there was still a bed for you at the inn and you weren’t forced to be away in a manger.

Looking forward to next week’s column.

    Huzzah!

  4. Burr –

I’m happy that the prognosis is good! I’m sorry you’ve had to go through so much.

I hope that we right the pandemic ship soon, but I think we have a ways to go. I admire your even keel.

    Best regards,

    Tengrain
