Here’s a hint: if you are trying to convince someone that something that feels right or is pleasurable is bad, it generally isn’t effective to simply tell him that it’s non-traditional, unnatural, or just wrong. Those are not arguments and they have no relevance to morality anyway.
Here’s another hint: wildly exaggerated and ridiculous claims like “gay marriage will destroy the family unit” as well as deceptive ones like “LGBT people have higher rates of suicide, so they clearly aren’t happy with themselves” do nothing for your cause either.
Too many conservative Christians are unable or unwilling to imagine themselves in another’s shoes, to think about what it would take to convince or even just engage with someone who isn’t already just like them. And so they just remain in their bubble, patting themselves on the back for spouting off Bible verses and inventing horror stories and handing out pamphlets. It’s almost as if they aren’t sincere about wanting to help people.
