- It seems like forever ago. We were stunned by Trump’s interference with ballot counting in Georgia. And who knows where else? But, in Ant Farmer’s Almanac, we finally get the other side of the story. Voter fraud happened, and Trump has the proof.
- Andy Borowitz analyzes my president’s reasoning: the Constitution is invalid because it was signed by dead people. Ah ha! Signing Fraud!
- Tommy Christopher brings us a photo array of news headlines about the Trump riot in the Capitol Building: headlines in the US and around the world.
- Max’s Dad has the best rants on the internet. This week he has a lot to rant about. He seems somewhat unimpressed with the would-be-revolutionaries who trashed the Capitol building, smashing a police officer with a fire extinguisher, a police officer who later died.
- PZ Myers has insight into the outlook from the inside of what he calls the recent half-assed rebellion.
Egged on by each other into a delusion of widespread support, the rioters thought it would be a fun gathering of righteous effort. The reaction outside their mutual admiration gathering will include ultra-serious legal consequence, and a lot less support than they comprehend just now.
- Frances Langum listens to Ainsley Earhardt of Fox fame, as she tries to explain how the frightened supporters of Trump act out because they are worried about the country’s future, scared they will not be heard. Frances isn’t prepared to provide therapeutic hugs.
- My long time conservative friend Darrell Michaels finally returns (Yay‑y‑y‑y!) to Unabashedly American, urging peace and prayer among conservatives. After all, those on the right should not become violent extremists like us godless Marxists on the left.
Well! That should quell the disturbances.
Sheesh! 2021 has been a long couple of years!
- M. Bouffant at Web of Evil briefly explains why he’s posting his effort to help the FBI identify and apprehend several horrible people. Okay, you can guess.
- At MadMikesAmerica, we learn that Mr. Trump is outraged by violence, lawlessness, and mayhem. We also learn why.
- Jonathan Bernstein reviews the obligation of a President to defend the Constitution, the nation, and us from clear and present danger, and what we, in turn, must do when that danger is the President himself.
- At The Moderate Voice, Joe Gandelman takes a dive into the reasoning behind, and the portends of the future for, the suspension of the Trump account on Twitter. The Twitter folks are also deleting other accounts as my president briefly pops up in them. It has become a sub‑teen game: a twit trying to outsmart his punishment. Sort of a presidential whack‑a‑mole.
- Sarah Cooper joins actor Matt Rappaport to consider how we all will experience the Twitter decision:
- Iron Knee at Political Irony notices the sudden silence as the Trump Twitter ban goes into effect, and examines First Amendment issues raised by a few conservatives.
- CalicoJack in The Psy of Life suggests a solution to our mad hatter of a president.
- News Corpse senses irony floating about in the air. Most Americans want Trump removed because he is really, really dangerous right now. But Trump supporters argue against it because it might anger Trump supporters.
- Scotties Toy Box has a host of illustrations of what MAGA really stands for. This week already disposes of Trump rioters trying to make America great.
- @momwino98 carefully considers the differences between Democrats and Republicans. Oddly, she seems silently skeptical.
- In Letters from an American, Heather Cox Richardson provides a good summary of this week’s failed insurrection, and the political consequences for the instigators. Not just Mr. Trump.
- driftglass watches as Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s one time Chief of Staff, reacts to the attempted coup and comes out against Trump. driftglass does attack MM but his argument is mostly with Mike’s argument: things were fine, once upon a time in Republican Land, until suddenly they weren’t. driftglass suggests an Occam’s razor alternative, that the GOP has been horrible for a hell of a long time.
I find driftglass compelling, but I still could go either way. Does it matter? After all, when one of God’s highest angels became Lucifer, there was no turning back.
- Infidel753 points out the truth that Trump rioters bring to clarity. Those whom Republicans have been urging toward extremism have become so extreme, they threaten the physical safety of those same Republicans.
- SilverAppleQueen watches the week’s mayhem and gives us her three word reaction.
- Reductress finds one unexamined advantage to domestic terror attacks: Hiding in fear can provide some free time to work on personal organization.
- Soon-to-be President Joe Biden has nominated Merrick Garland as his new Attorney General. Ted McLaughlin at jobsanger presents to us the explicit instructions the new POTUS gives to his new AG.
Hey! Wait a minute. I thought the Justice Department was supposed to be free from politics! Isn’t that the objection we had to Mr. Barr? Let’s look at those orders.
Oh! Well.
okay, then.
- In The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser, Bruce takes a look at whether atheists are out to make America an atheist nation.
- Vincent at A Wayfarer’s Notes suggests that the role of artists is pretty much always subversive. Social core truths are held as immutable. That’s how we stick together and function.
The true artist explodes that by showing our deepest beliefs as fragile, the ground on which we stand as temporary.
- With rioters storming the Senate and House and a President seemingly encouraging the lawlessness, we can easily forget other national crises. Fortunately, The Journal of Improbable Research finds a study to how to wear a facemask without smearing lipstick. I can hardly wait to try it!
